Philadelphia was born on December 24th, 1692 in Lasswade, Midlothian, Scotland and her baptism took place there on December 29th, 1692. Philadelphia's father was Sir Archibald Borthwick 16th Lord and her mother was Elizabeth Gillespie. Her paternal grandparents were Sir Patrick Borthwick (15th Lord) and Marion Scott; her maternal grandparents were James Gillespie and Jean McLay. She had three brothers and four sisters, named Robert, George, John, Elizabeth, Margaret, Hellen and Margaret. Philadelphia and Margaret were twins.-
