Margaret was born in Rhynd, Perthshire, Scotland . Margaret's father was Thomas Alexander and her mother was Margaret Borthwick. Her paternal grandparents were James Alexander and Janet Nivison; her maternal grandparents were David Borthwick and Margaret Baxter. She had two brothers and three sisters, named David Thomas, James, Janet, Marion Borthwick and Mary Johnstone. She had a half-brother named Thomas Hood Wilson. She died on April 27th, 1903 in Forgandenny, Perthshire, Scotland . She was buried in Dunbarney Churchyard, Perthshire, Scotland .-
