Gottlieb was born on February 21st, 1829 in Brienne, Bessarabia, Russia (now Ukraine) and his confirmation took place on March 19th, 1844.1 2  Gottlieb's father was Martin Welz and his mother was Christina Dekowsky (Welz, Heiss). He had a brother named Christian. He had a half-brother named Johann.  He died at the age of 38 on February 24th, 1867 in Josephdorf, Bessarabia, Russia (now Ukraine).

Gottlieb's family

Gottlieb and Anna were married in a religious & civil ceremony on February 5th, 1848 in Tarutino (Tarutyne), Bessarabia, Russia (now Ukraine).1  They had four sons and two daughters, named Johann, Gottlieb, Jakob, Jacob, Christina and Louisa.
