His paternal grandparents were Edwin Eastman Hawkins and Rosie Ellen Gill (Hawkins); his maternal grandparents were Joseph Jacob Barclay and Hanna Ritenour (Barclay). He had a brother and a sister, named James and Earla. He died due to heart disease, Pulmonary Edema, Congestive Cardiomyopathy, Coronary Artery Disease, at the age of 73 on February 18th, 2003 in Merrillville, Lake Co, IN. He was cremation in Burns Funeral home in Crown Point, Lake Co, IN.
