Mary was born in 1821 in Rackheath, Norfolk.1   Mary's father was Thomas Riseborough and her mother was Susannah Tower. She had six brothers and a sister, named Robert, Thomas, John, James, Charles, Thomas and Susannah.  She was the second youngest of the eight children.
