James was born in 1810 in Shotesham, Norfolk.  James' father was Anthony Everrett and his mother was Elizabeth. He had nine brothers and two sisters, named Jonathan, John, William, George, Charles, Edward, Thomas, Robert, Joseph, Mary and Hephzibah.  He was the fourth youngest of the twelve children.
