Sarah was born in 1830 in Tong, Bradford, Yorkshire and her baptism took place there on May 30th, 1830.1 2   Sarah's father was James Brooksbank and her mother was Mary Broadbent. She had five brothers and five sisters, named John, Joseph, James, Daniel, Mark, Anne, Mary, Elizabeth, Ester and Alice.  She was the fifth youngest of the eleven children.
