John's father was William WOODHOUSE and his mother was Emma COTTON. He had a brother and five sisters, named John, Lucy, Emma, Florence, Alice and Ada.  He was the second oldest of the seven children.  He died as a war casualty at the age of 28 on November 27th, 1916 in Beaumont Hamel, France.²
