James was born in 1882 in Brascote, Mkt.Bosworth, Leicestershire.¹

James' father was Arthur WARDLE and his mother was Annie HARDING. He had two brothers and two sisters, named George, Arthur, Mabel and Winifred.  He was the oldest of the five children.  He died at the age of 81 in 1963 in Nuneaton, Warwickshire.²
