John's father was George JAYES and his mother was Sarah Elizabeth HALLAS. He had five brothers and two sisters, named Thomas, James, Herman, George, Oscar, Mary and Sarah.  He was the fourth youngest of the eight children.  He died at the age of 82 in December 1967 in Meriden, Warwickshire.²
