John was born in 1888 in Bedworth, Warwickshire.  John's father was Joseph HENTON and his mother was Sarah <UNKNOWN>. He had three brothers and five sisters, named Tom, Samuel, Joseph, Hannah, Sarah, Elizabeth, Harriett and Mary.  He was the youngest of the nine children.
