Almond was born on July 10th, 1887. Almond's father was George Hocking Vingoe and his mother was Margaret Armstrong. His paternal grandparents were Israel Vingoe and Mary Hocking. He had two brothers and two sisters, named George, Albert, Margaret and Mary. He was the second youngest of the five children. He died at the age of 58 in 1945.
