Marguerite was born on December 20th, 1824.  Marguerite's father was Joseph Mire and her mother was Clarisse Arceneaux.  Her paternal grandparents were Joachim  (Bénoni) dit Bénoni Lemire and Madeleine Melançon; her maternal grandparents were Pierre Arsenault and Elizabeth Fontenot. She had three brothers and seven sisters, named Theodule, Dominique, Paul, Adelard, Claire, Marie, Elizabeth, Adelaide, Madeleline and Rosalie.  She was the eighth oldest of the eleven children.
