    Stephen and Martha were married at St. David's Episcopal Church. The church was a solid brick building with tall arched windows.
    
    Stephen and Martha lived in Chester, Pennsylvania as shown by a deed dated January 19, 1726/27, which reads: "Stephen Cole of West Chester, buys from John Minshall, Property whereon the said, Minshall now dwells. Bounded Southward with James Street and with lots of John Worrall. Northward with Middle Street. Westward with lots of John Baldwin and William Pickle. Eastward with lots of Sarah Smith, Rodger Jackson and Griffith Howell."
    
    Stephen served as vestryman at St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Chester. He purchased seven different lots and tracts of land in the borough and county of Chester from 1726 to 1741. He was known as a butcher, landowner and vestryman.
    
    On December 26, 1744, Stephen Cole, yeoman of the borough of Chester, Province of Pennsylvania, wrote his will. He obvciously knew he was about to die, as his death occurred nine days later. He named as Executors, his "beloved wife" Martha Cole; his "Trusty Friend", Thomas Cummings; "My trusty and well beloved friend", Rev. Richard Backhouse, Clerk of St. Paul's Church. He left lots in the borough of Chester to six children. John Cole, the eldest son being of age. James and Elizabeth Cole to choose their own Guardian. Stephen, William and Mark Cole, minors to be apprenticed out to learn trades of Cordwainer, Hatter and Miller.
    
    Stephen was buried in the Cole plot in St. Paul's Churchyard in Chester, Pennsylvania with his mother and his daughter, Elizabeth that had died on June 19, 1731 at the age of nine months. The inscription of Stephen's tombstone reads that he died on January 4, 1745 at the age of 44.
    
    The Executors of the Cole estate sold the land and home where Stephen and Martha lived in Chester on April 17, 1746, stating, "Martha Cole, widow of Stephen Cole, dec. of the borough of Chester, with Thomas Cummings and Rev. Richard Backhouse, all Executors of the said, Cole estate. Sells to John Caldwell, of Chester the home where Stephen Cole did reside, located on the Market Square on the corner of James and High Streets. This home and 20 acres of land bought from Joseph Hoskins April 9, 1741."
