Hans was born on January 5th, 1830 in Tartumaa, Nõo kk, Vastse-Nõo.  Hans' father was Andres Tomson and his mother was Lena.  His maternal grandparents were Ado and Madli. He had four brothers and four sisters, named Peter, Jaan, Karl, Michel, Ewa, Liso, Marri and Ann.  He was the sixth oldest of the nine children.  He died  due to halvatus at the age of 69 on April 28th, 1899 in Tartumaa, Nõo kk, Vastse-Nõo.
