Carolus was born on January 9th, 1836.  Carolus' father was Joseph François Benoit and his mother was Rosalie Francisca Decoster.  His paternal grandfather was Jacob Joseph Benoit and his paternal grandmother is Barbara Theresia Vanwijnsberghe. He had three brothers and five sisters, named Joannes, Petrus Joseph, Leo, Theresia, Rosalie, Barbara, Coleta and Ursula.  He was the third oldest of the nine children.  He died at the age of 33 on February 26th, 1869.
