Anabella was born in 1837 in North Dell, Barvas, Ross & Cromarty, Scotland.  Anabella's father was Donald Murray and her mother was Catherine MacLeod. She had a brother and three sisters, named Farquhar, Jane, Margaret and Dolina.  She was the second youngest of the five children.
