Murdo was born in 1857 in 4 South Dell, Barvas, Ross-shire, Scotland.  Murdo's father was Donald Morrison and his mother was Isabella Gillies. He had five brothers named John, Angus, Donald, Alexander and Roderick.  He was the third youngest of the six sons.  He died at the age of 4 in 1861 in 4 South Dell, Barvas, Ross-shire, Scotland.
