Alice was born in February 1901 in Middlesbrough, England.1 Alice's father was Thomas Partland and her mother was Rose Ann Hannaway. Her maternal grandparents were Peter Hannaway and Bridget Rice. She had a brother and two sisters, named Thomas, Mary and Veronica. She was the second oldest of the four children.-
