His paternal grandparents were Patrick Hannaway and Caroline Elizabeth Jones. He had a brother and two sisters, named Patrick, Catherine and Margaret. He was the youngest of the four children. He died at the age of 91 on September 1st, 2019 in Middlesbrough, England.-
