Her paternal grandparents were Andrew Davidson and Christian Petrie; her maternal grandparents were James Petrie and Agnes Davidson. She had two brothers and four sisters, named Francis, Henry, Agnes, Jemima, Elizabeth and Mary Ann. She was the third oldest of the seven children.-
