Agnes was born about 1206 in Thuringia, Medieval States.1   Agnes' father was Landgrave Hermann of Thuringia I and her mother was Countess Sofie of Sommerschenburg.  Her maternal grandparents were Count Palatine Friedrich of Sommerschenburg and <Unknown>. She had a brother and three sisters, named der Heilge, Jutte, Hedwig and Irmgard.  She was the youngest of the five children.
