Arnold was born about 1104 in Laurenburg, Hessen-Nassau, Prussia.1   Arnold's father was Count Dudo of Laurenburg and his mother was Countess Irmgard of Arnstein.  His maternal grandparents were Count Ludwig of Arnstein I and <Unknown>. He had a brother and a sister, named Ruprecht and Demudis.  He was the second oldest of the three children.
