Sarah was born on January 17th, 1779 in South Carolina.1   Sarah's father was Nathan Breed and her mother was Mary Harlan.  Her paternal grandparents were Rev Joseph Breed and Priscilla Avery. She had two brothers and four sisters, named Leonard, Nathan, Phoebe, Priscilla, Polly and Elizabeth.  She was the oldest of the seven children.
