Duke Heinrich (The Long) of Saxony VI

Heinrich, known as The Long, was born in 1173 in Braunschweig, Brunswick, Germany.¹ The Long's father was Duke Heinrich (The Lion) of Saxony and Bavaria V and his mother was Princess Matilda of England. His paternal grandparents were Duke Heinrich (The Proud) of Bavaria and Saxony and Duchess Gertrude of Austria; his maternal grandparents were King of England Henry (Curtmantel) Plantagenet II and Princess Eleanore of Acquitane. He had three brothers and three sisters, named Otto, Lothar, Wilhelm, Richenza, Mathilde and Eleanore. He was the third oldest of the seven children. He died at the age of 54 on April 28th, 1227.¹
