James F. was born in March 1892 in Person Co, NC. James F.'s father was James Ruffin Yarbrough and his mother was Frances 'Fannie' Gentry. His paternal grandparents were Thomas 'Tom' Yarbrough and Sarah Ann Rhew. He had four brothers and two sisters, named Bedy F., Johnny Pat, Ruby Ruffin, Howard Arthur, Effie H. and Susan.
