Hervius Walter, sometimes called Henry, continued the name of Walter, as did his descendants down to Edmond, Earl of Carrick. Edmond dropped the surname because with his title of Earl the Christian name only was to be used with the title. He married Maud, eldest daughter of Theobald de Valoins, and had 5 sons: Theobald, the first Butler of Ireland, Hubert, Walter, Roger and Hamon. (Kin of Mellcene Thurman Smith, page 945)
