3rd High Steward of Scotland Walter Stewart 
Walter was born in 1180 in Scotland.1 Walter's father was 2nd Hereditary Steward Alan FitzWalter of Scotland and his mother was Margaret de Galloway. His paternal grandparents were 1st Hereditary Steward Walter FitzAlan of Scotland and Eschyna de Molle; his maternal grandparents were Lord Fergus of Galloway and Princess Elizabeth of England. He had a sister named Avelina. He was the younger of the two children. He died at the age of 66 in 1246.1 General Notes
Walter Stewart, 3rd High Steward of Scotland and Justicar of Scotland. Instead of taking the name ...Walter FitzAlan..., Walter adopted the name of his office and became known as Walter Stewart. Thus, he is the first Stewart from whom all the names are descended. He was appointed Justicar of Scotland in 1230.
