Mary was born about 1836 in , , Tennessee, USA.1 Mary's father was Nathan Shipley and her mother was Charlotte Campbell. Her paternal grandparents were Richard SHIPLEY and Henrietta HUGHES. She had four brothers and four sisters, named Marion, Richard, William Nathan, Nathan Taylor, Louiza, Elizabeth, Delila and Margaret. She was the fourth oldest of the nine children.-
