James Ruthven 
James was born about 1548 in Ruthven Castle, Perthshire, Scotland. James' father was 13th Laird of Ruthven Patrick Ruthven and his mother was Janet Douglas. His paternal grandparents were 12th Laird of Ruthven William Ruthven and Janet Halyburton. He had five brothers and two sisters, named 1st Earl of Gowrie William, Patrick, George, Archibald, Alexander, Jean and Isabel. He was the fourth youngest of the eight children.-
