Walter R. was born in 1838 in Rockingham Co, NC.1 Walter R.'s father was Michael F. Roberts and his mother was Elizabeth Wray. His paternal grandparents were James Roberts and Susannah Thomas. He had two brothers and two sisters, named Pinkney, William, Caroline and Emily. He was the oldest of the five children.1 General Notes
