David was born about 1540 in Leslie, Aberdeenshire, Scotland.1 David's father was 15th Laird of Dreghorn Henry Pitcairn and his mother was Isabella Balfour. His paternal grandparents were John Pitcairn and Agnes Ayton. He was an only child. He died in 1610 in Scotland.1 General Notes
