Mary Elizabeth was born in 1880. Mary Elizabeth's father was Jacob Virden Foster and her mother was Sally Ann "Sally " Sanders. Her paternal grandparents were Micajah Harris Foster and Sally Verden. She had seven brothers and five sisters, named Micajah Lafayette, Thomas A., Stephen S., Joseph Franklin, John Humble, Samuel Bartlett, Benjamin B., Martha A., James High, Jane P., Ibbie L and Sarah Eliza. She was the second youngest of the thirteen children.-
