Reason was born in 1846 in KY.1 Reason's father was James A. Dennison and his mother was Cynthia Anderson. His paternal grandparents were William Dennison and Jennie Jane Barnes. He had three brothers and seven sisters, named Skillet Head, Newton, James A, Nancy Jane, MARY ANN, Delila Alwilda, Suellen F, Mariah Jackson, Salima A and Sequana.
