Van Larue was born on November 5th, 1909 in Kentucky. Van Larue's father was Marshall Wade COOPER Sr. and his mother was Martha Belle McKINNEY. His paternal grandparents were Marshall COOPER and Mary Frances BROWNING. He had three brothers and four sisters, named McKinney Francis, Marshall Wade, Joel Tyne, Martha Annette, Mary Sue, Elizabeth Wade and Shirley Jean. He was the second oldest of the eight children.
