Amanda was born in 1840 in Putnam Co., IN.. Amanda's father was John Samuel BROWNING Sr. and her mother was Beulah "Betsy" (Betsy) REEVES. Her paternal grandparents were Edmund Woodville BROWNING and ???? (Mrs. Edmund Woodville) BROWNING. She had three brothers and eight sisters, named Edward, John S., Thompson, Caroline B., Mary, Nancy, Eliza, Ann J., Sarah C., Emma and Cordelia. She was the sixth youngest of the twelve children.-
