Hugh was born in 1270 in North Tawton, Devonshire, England. Hugh's father was John de Valletort and his mother was Mary de Columbers or de Columbiers. His paternal grandparents were Philip de Valletort and Unknown 351; his maternal grandparents were Philip de Columbers or de Columbiers and Egeline de Courtenay. He was an only child. He died at the age of 40 in 1310.-
