Alexander was born in 1217 in Buchan, Aberdeen, Scotland. Alexander's father was William Comyn 1 and his mother was Margaret de Buchan 1. His paternal grandparents were Richard Comyn and Hextilda de Tynedale; his maternal grandparents were Fergus de Buchan and Unknown 731. He was an only child. He died at the age of 73 in 1290 in Buchan, Aberdeen, Scotland.-
