Richard was born in 1120 in Nortallerton and Badenoch, Inverness, Scotland. Richard's father was William Comyn and his mother was Maud Basset. His paternal grandparents were John Comyn and Unknown Giffard; his maternal grandparents were Thurston Basset and Thurstine Unknown. He was an only child. He died at the age of 59 in 1179 in Altyre, Moray, Scotland.-
