Samuel M. was born on May 31st, 1826.1 Samuel M.'s father was Samuel , Jr. Knox and his mother was Mary Montgomery. His paternal grandparents were Samuel , Sr. Knox and Mary Luckey; his maternal grandparents were Colonel Hugh Montgomery and Margret Barclay. He had seven brothers and six sisters, named Dr. James Croll, Hugh Montgomery, John Barclay, William W., Christopher C., D.L., Thomas J., Cynthia L., Margaret Ann, Mary J., Elizabeth E., Eliza Agnes and Evelyn. He was the sixth youngest of the fourteen children.-
