Joseph was born after 1740.1   Joseph's father was John Knox and his mother was Jean Gracey.  His maternal grandparents were John O'Gracey and Jean Sinclair. He had six brothers and a sister, named William, John , Jr., Absalom, Samuel , Sr., James, Benjamin and Mary.  He was the third oldest of the eight children.
