!Sarah went to China as a missionary for Congre.Ch. ABCFM, and met Chauncey there. bp.4 May 1855; joined First Congregational Church 17 Apr 1870. After completing high school, attended Rockford Seminary and taught Lating for a year of two after graduation. One of her students was Jane Addams, whom she was to see decades later at Hull House and who visited her in Peking early in the 1920s. She received her appointment from the Am.Board of Commissioners for Foreign Missions at age 24 and sailed for China on 13 Sep 1879. Went to China as missionary where she met Chauncey.
