Margaret Marie Drinnin
Margaret Drinnin was born August 8, 1904, at the family home. She attended grammar school at District 80 and high school at Columbus High. Margaret married Samuel Thompson and they lived in Council Bluffs, Iowa, and Omaha, where he worked for the railroad. Margaret and Sam had one daughter, Elizabeth (Bette) Jeanne, born September 21, 1923.
Margaret was divorced from Samuel Thompson and moved to San Francisco, California in the early 1940's. There she met and married Gordon N. McColley.
During World War II Margaret spent many volunteer hours working for the Red Cross, driving a large van around the streets of San Francisco to blood collections.
After Gordon's death Margaret married Ewald "Ed" Treude. Ed was a printer, and printed several of the late 1960's "hippie" concert posters and postcards that now have became so popular and valuable. Ed died of a heart attack January 1983 in San Francisco.
Margaret suffered a stroke in March 1987 and died later that year on November 22, 1987.
I didn't know Aunt Margaret very well, I wish that I would have had the
opportunity to get to know her better. She appeared to be a soft spoken
lady, very kind and thoughtful, but with plenty of determination and
courage. When I was a little girl on the farm she was to me a bit of a
mythical Fairy God Mother, far, far away in a big city in California. I
can remember the thrill each Christmas when the box of gifts would arrive
from California. Mom would never let us open the gifts until Christmas
Eve, and what a suspenseful time that would be, waiting and dreaming what
wonderful thing would be in the gift. (I always managed to tear open a
few corners trying to see inside.)
Aunt Margaret didn't come back to visit in Nebraska very often, I only
remember seeing her twice. She was a very pretty lady, tall and thin.
Margaret's daughter, Bette Jeanne, was married to William Cereske in San Francisco on August 1, 1947. Bette Jeanne and Bill had two children; William Hamilton (Bill) Cereske Jr., born June 4, 1953, and Catherine Camille (Buffy) Cereske, born June 8, 1955. Bill died of a heart attack on April 12, 1973.
Bill Jr. was married to Irene Crosley on October 27, 1985. They have two children, William Hamilton III (Colt), born July 18, 1988; and Christopher Stephen, born April 10, 1990.
Buffy was married to Howard Fleischman on February 6, 1983, they had two sons, Richard William (Spike) Cereske-Fleischman, born February 27, 1985; and Max Edward Cereske-Fleischman, born May 22, 1986. Buffy is now divorced.
