Narrative

According to the ship records, John (21 years old) and Charlotte Clark 27 years old) traveled by the sailing ship "Constance" to Hobbon's Bay, Victoria, Austrailia. They sailed from Plymouth, England July 15, 1951 and arrived in Hobbon's Bay October 27, 1951. Both John and Charlotte could read and write and they possessed a Bible - they were listed as Episcopalians. Henry "son" traveled with them and no more information has been found about him. Possibly he was Charlotte's son. A daughter, Julia, was born on route aboard the ship.
According to the marriage certificate for John Clark and Elizabeth Kearney, John had 3 living children and one child had died.
He was a member of the Christian Israelite Church - a cult which was started by John Wroe in England. There is a thought that John was Episcopalian (Church of England) and got involved with the Christian Israelite Church because of Elizabeth Kearney. Members of the C.I.C. often had their civil marriage in an Episcopalian church and another marriage in the Christian Israelite Church.
John Clark homesteaded around New Gismond and got the 80 acre homestead by pointing his finger randomly to the property on a map.
John Thomas Clark was a tinsmith by trade and was known as "tinker Clark." He has a handmade box in a museum in Australia. He evidently traveled around selling things he made from metal. He was also a carpenter and a bricklayer.
He died from "Chronic disease of the bladder.
