Narrative

[3991.ftw]

[Brøderbund WFT Vol. 1, Ed. 1, Tree #3991, Date of Import: Oct 25, 1998]

Samuel Smith (1790-1856) married Ruth Duncan in 1820. Ruth was a daughter of David Duncan who was traditionally a descendant of the Scotch King Duncan I

Samuel and Ruth lived in the Cumberland Valley of Pennsylvania while they produced nine offspring. Then they moved to Illinois, soon after 1840, settling near Moro, which is not far from the town of Wood River, the name Nicholas Bailhache gave his farm, near the Upper Alton River.

The Smiths organized a Presbyterian Church in Moro soon after moving there; and it appears (without proof) that Samuel's brother James may have been the first minister of that church. At least he lived in Moro for a while, but just when is a mystery.
