Benajah Doty is last recorded in New Jersey in 1751, when he performed an inventory of the estate of Roger Williams. He is recorded in North Carolina on 15 March 1762 when he sold land to Titus Green Farr.

He was active in the Colonial and State Legislatures during the years 1775 to 1778.

The will of Benajah Doty, signed 22 October 1780, proved 15 Novmber 1780, names his wife Elizabeth; Hester Brack; Faber Doty; daughter Nancey Worrin; two sons Lemuel and Benajah; and son James. Will was witnessed by Frank Chatwin, among others.

The name Hull Doty appears in close proximity to that of Benajah Doty in at least one colonial record, although no relationship between thm is implied. However, it is plausible that Benajah Doty may have named a son Hull, after his uncle, Benjamin Hull, who left property to his "cousin" Benajah Doty in his will.
