Living's father was Albert William Ziegler and his mother was Sarah Medalon Wolsey.  His maternal grandparents were Thomas Andrew Wolsey and Sarah Ann Motley. He had four half-brothers and two half-sisters, named Thomas Edward, George Franklin, Jonathon Delafayette, William Theodore, Dora Medalon and Sarah Jane.
