William was born in 1809.1   William's father was Jacob Wire and his mother was Anna Hager.  His paternal grandparents were William Wire and Elizabeth Hermit; his maternal grandparents were John Hager and Elizabeth Weise. He had five brothers and six sisters, named John, Phillip, Morris, Jacob H, Warren, Elizabeth, Mary (Polly), Catherine, Eve (Effie), Margaret and Permelia.  He was the fifth oldest of the twelve children.1
