The Early Germans of New Jersey- Chambers
gives more information on the Hager family. Three brothers, Hans George, Johannes and Jacob embarked from Rotterdam on the "Dragon", landing in Philadelphia 9-30-1732. Hans George went to New York State and probably joined his countrymen at Schoharie for there are numerous records of Hagers among the Schoharie records.
Another brother Jonathan, who may have come earlier or later, is credited with having founded Hagerstown, MD.
Johannes and Jacob migrated with the group to the German Valley in NJ. Johannes leased a farm on Budd tract and later bought a farm in German Valley before 1759. Letters of administration on his estate were granted his oldest son, Lawrence, 6-2-1765. His second son John, b. 11-13-1738 m. Elizabeth Weise, daughter of Phillip. John bought land at Drakestown in 1763 and kept a tavern until 1792 when he moved away. We have records of only the two children; daughter Anna, b. 1781 who m. Jacob Wire, and a son John, b. 1788.
John Hager's Last Will and Testament dated 8-10-1811, mentions daughters Polly, Peggy, Caty and Betsy, besides Anna and son John.
