1   Joanna's father was Josiah Whitcomb and her mother was Rebecca Waters.  Her paternal grandparents were John Whitcomb and Frances Coggan. She had four brothers and four sisters, named Josiah, Josiah, Hezekiah, David, Rebecca, Mary, Abigail and Damaris.1
